Chapter Roadmap: How to Use This Chapter

For patients: read the interpreting-treatment-responses section and the phenotype-targeted-treatment-pathways section to understand how a medication’s benefit or null response informs your treatment plan. This chapter interprets medication responses — it does not prescribe; any medication decision belongs to your prescriber.

For caregivers: read the interpreting-treatment-responses section to track what a medication is and is not doing, and the medication-sensitivity-phenotypes section if the patient reacts unusually to drugs.

For clinicians: read the per-system medication sections (immune, antiviral, mitochondrial, autonomic, mast-cell, CNS-stimulant) to match a drug class to the suspected underlying mechanism, guided by the phenotype-targeted-treatment-pathways section.

For researchers: the mechanism-directed drug sections and the medication-sensitivity-phenotypes hypotheses identify which mechanisms lack validated pharmacological probes.
