(Lin et al. 2025) DOI:: 10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2025.30730 PMID:: 40924424 Study Design:: Retrospective cross-sectional survey using NHIS 2022-2023 Sample Size:: 21,631 adults (1,807 food insecure) Key Findings::
- Food insecurity associated with current long COVID: aOR 1.73 (95% CI 1.39-2.15)
- Food insecurity associated with lower recovery odds: aOR 0.70 (95% CI 0.54-0.92)
- 15% of food insecure reported current long COVID vs 7% of food secure
- SNAP participation (p-interaction=0.04) and unemployment (p-interaction=0.04) modified associations
Conclusion:: Food insecurity is associated with greater odds of long COVID and lower recovery. SNAP participation mitigates this association. Limitations:: Cross-sectional; cannot establish causality; self-reported long COVID; US-specific. Certainty:: 0.80
